attached

Gradually, over the past month or so, Miles has become rather attached to a couple of things - his blankie and this little yellow school bus. The blankie he only wants at naptime and bedtime, but the bus, well that he wants all of the time. When we're driving in the car, when we're visiting friends or family, when we're eating breakfast, when we're reading bedtime stories - bus, bus, BUS! - he says. I've started carrying it around with us in the car, in my purse, in the stroller, pretty much everywhere we go. I find myself wondering how long he'll favor this toy, and I know that now that I've blogged about it, he'll most likely switch up the routine and start cuddling a new toy, because that's just how it seems to go.

Related to this, the past few nights, instead of falling alseep quickly at bedtime like he usually does, Miles has been restless and active. After I put him in his crib with his blankie and teddy bear, he'll start throwing these usually beloved items overboard and then announcing "uh-oh, uh-oh, UH-OH" until he's sure he's said it loud enough for us to hear him in the next room. Of course, I know his goal is to lure us back into his room for a little more mommy/daddy time and to delay bedtime. I've gone back to check on him (without him knowing) and noticed that he's pointing at the blankie on the floor and starting to gain interest in how he can get to it. I've seen him look around, trying to problem solve, maybe even contemplating climbing out of his crib. I've heard that as soon as your child can climb out of his crib on his own, it's time to transition from a crib to a bed. It seems a little premature to be thinking about that now (he's only 19 months old), but I'm afraid that the misplaced blankie might provide enough motivation for him to start experimenting. Anyone else have advice on how to handle this and when to move a toddler to a "big boy" bed?

So cute!! I love it when babies have their little comfort items and carry them around. I know when they get older it won't be much fun. but I love seeing Joselyn drag her blankie around everywhere. The little yellow school bus? Too adorable.

As far as bed time goes... Joselyn did the same thing for a long time. We finally had to go in, throw the blankets in her crib really fast, say goodnight I love you without looking her in the eye and leave. She cried a little, but soon got the point. She never used to cry at naptime/bedtime, but she does now for about 1 minute or less. I have also caught her TRYING to climb over the crib, although with no success and I feel the time for a big girl bed is drawing near. It's definitely a SCARY thought for me. So much FREEDOM for a little baby, you know? I'll be checking back on this post to see if anyone has left any advice. My sisters both never had problems with the transition for their kids... but they are nothing like my Joselyn.
