6 months

Our little girl is 6 months old. I find myself wanting time to slow down, wishing that she would stay a baby for a while longer. I'm not paying much attention to milestones as markers of time or development, but rather enjoying whatever she's doing at that moment for what it is. Slow to introduce solids, in no hurry to see her sit on her own or start creeping.

And then she goes and makes facial expressions like these...

And I can't help but feel an overwhelming urge to laugh and cuddle her at the same time.

I was out for breakfast the other day with the kids and my mom and it suddenly became very clear to me that everything in my life right now revolves around these two kiddos. I'm probably not the most exciting person to invite to a dinner party these days, unless you want to hear about diaper rash or the latest funny thing that Miles said or did. This blog reflects that, focusing only on our roles as parents. Despite this, I have made a promise to myself to document Lydia's first two years, even if it's just so I have the material to make a baby book like I did for Miles. And I hope that our family living far away enjoys seeing photos of Miles and Lydia as they grow.

happy valentine's day!

Hugs and kisses from these two crazy cats!

We've been busy making valentines for the children in Miles' class. We found this idea on color theory (from Mer Mag) and went for it. I love the way these turned out! Miles was involved in every step - from painting to stamping to stuffing, he was right there doing it all. His favorite part was slipping the chocolate heart into each envelope (of course).

At Miles and Lydia's school, parents were asked to make a valentine for each of their children -- a "love letter" of sorts. Here are a few photos of what we made for the kiddos. I loved this activity. It made me stop and think about what exactly I would say to each of my little ones in order to express my love for them. For Lydia, we wrote about many of the things we hope she will experience in life. For Miles, we wrote about some of our favorite everyday moments spent with him...

And a little something I made for Miles -- a beaded bracelet. He's been into beading lately, so I thought he'd enjoy this. He liked it so much that he requested a necklace just like it. We spent this morning beading one together.
