a slow start

Spring has been slow to arrive this year. With snow on the ground just a week ago and snow flurries still making an appearance (as in this week), we are soaking up the sunny (although still chilly) spring days that  come our way.

Life has been busy. Really, really busy. A few updates:

  • We've had our hands full with Miles lately. He's been testing the limits, pushing the boundaries in a very enthusiastic three year old way. It's taking a lot of energy to parent him right now. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with the fact that our once very committed napper is no longer sleeping during the day at school.  By the time we pick him up in the evening, he can hardly keep it together. And things just go downhill from there...(please just be a phase, please just be a phase)
  • Which leads to my next bit of news - Miles has to have his tonsils and adenoids removed. He'll have to stay in the hospital overnight (because of his age) and be at home recovering for at least a week, maybe more. He's never had strep or tonsil-related infections, but has very large tonsils that seem to be causing quite a few problems (chronic ear infections, some temporary hearing loss in one ear, not eating or sleeping as well as he should), all of which can lead to slower growth and development. After considering the risks of the surgery, we decided to go ahead with it, hoping that everything will go well and that he won't be in too much pain after the procedure. Poor little guy.
  • I joined a book club a few months ago. I was a little unsure about the time commitment required for reading, getting together to discuss, hosting the gathering every once in a while, but so far it's been a really great way to read books that I normally wouldn't choose on my own and also a nice way to get out of the house and socialize with new friends.
  • We've been working on minor home-improvement projects over the past few weeks, one of which was to replace our storm doors. Our front storm door now is a single glass panel that lets a lot more light into our main living area. What a difference that makes. Bring on the warm weather!
